about

The House Carpenter: An old English ballad collected by Francis Child and sometimes referred to as “The Daemon Lover.” Our version was inspired by a live recording of Doc Watson at Gerdes Folk City in NYC in the early 60’s – it’s a bit quicker in tempo than the usual, and spares you the grim last set of verses where you find out the poor young woman has been seduced by none other than the devil himself.
